Rugby: Lasswade in sevens heaven after their Penicuik triumph

Lasswade's great season continued when they won the Penicuik Sevens.

They added the trophy to the National One title and the National Shield with a 12-7 win over Boroughmuir in the final in Midlothian.

On the way to the final on Saturday the men from Hawthornden defeated Moray House 43-0, Watsonians 14-0 and Hawick Harlequins 22-7. Boroughmuir had made it to the last two by seeing off Inverleith, North Berwick and Penicuik, but the Presidents' Cup was to belong to Lasswade.

In the Ladies' Shield Dunbar defeated the Hawthornden Occasionals in the final 29-19.

At the Langholm Sevens on Saturday local sides did not go too well, but yesterday in the second Kings of the Sevens event of the weekend Edinburgh Accies reached the final of the Peebles Sevens.

With the likes of Paul Loudon, Matt Coupar and Ruairidh Bonner in good form the men from Raeburn Place defeated Hawick YM 33-12 in round one.

In the quarter-finals they dug deep to defeat Gala 26-24 and then they caused a shock by seeing off in-form Jed-Forest 31-26 in a cracking tie.

In the final they were up against the hosts and went into the break 20-5 down, their try coming from former Scotland age-grade cap Loudon.

After the interval Accies got the early try they needed through Iain Bertinussen, but 20-12 down soon became 34-12 down as Peebles won in the sun.

Earlier, Musselburgh had made it through to the quarter-finals, but lost out to the hosts.
