Rugby: Lasswade dig deep

Lasswade had to fight hard to come back from 15-5 down at half-time to see off Garnock and keep up their unbeaten start to the National One season.

The Midlothian men had gone ahead at Lochshore through an early try by Gavin Brown, but the hosts' forwards were in the ascendency and their good work allowed Garnock to go in at the break ten points clear.

In the second half a superb individual try by in-form scrum-half Neil Clark, which included two chip kicks, made it 15-12 and then Brown levelled things up with a penalty.

An interception try by Gavin Sharp put the visitors 20-15 to the good and then young Kyle Smith went over for a converted score to grab the bonus point and the win, 27-15.

The victory means Lasswade host a top-of-the-table clash this coming weekend against Greenock Wanderers, who defeated Linlithgow on Saturday.

Edinburgh University have now lost three out of three after going down 41-35 to Livingston in an amazing encounter, while RHC Cougars won 35-22 at Langholm and Murrayfield Wanderers lost 37-16 at Ellon.

In National Three Preston Lodge are second after a 22-17 home win over Cumbernauld.
