Rugby: Lasswade coaches stay put

Lasswade Rugby Club have scotched rumours suggesting that their coaches may be moving on following the Hawthornden men's latest success, which has seen them land two pieces of silverware this season.

After another fruitful campaign that saw the club promoted to the Premiership as National Division One champions, as well as retaining the National Shield, the club's coaches were linked with jobs elsewhere.

However, Lasswade president Ian Barr has moved to quell those suggestions. Writing on the club website, he said: "Despite some rumours, I can confirm that Dave Cockburn will continue as head coach next season. He will be assisted by Bernie Hennessy again."

And there have been further rewards off the field - with the potential of more to come - for Lasswade, who lifted the SRU's club of the month award for March. It was the fourth time the Midlothian outfit has earned the honour which is decided by a selection panel basing its decision on three criteria - performance, discipline and development.

In addition to the 1,000 cheque that accompanies the accolade, the winner is also automatically shortlisted for the annual prize.
