Rugby: Irvine to take up Lions manager's post

Edinburgh's Andy Irvine is due to be unveiled later today as manager of the 2013 British and Irish Lions rugby tour – as forecast by the Evening News on August 10.

The 59-year-old full back legend is expected to lead the combined side in Australia after previously serving as chairman and selector.

When we put prospect of managing the Lions to Irvine after learning he had become leading contender he refused to rule himself out, saying: "It is a possibility but early days yet."

One of Irvine's first tasks will be to help co-ordinate the hunt for a coach who won't be appointed until after next year's World Cup.
