Rugby: Hughes' hat-trick of tries sees Broughton past Inverleith

Donald HUGHES has now scored five tries in two matches after his hat-trick helped Broughton hit a half century against Inverleith.

The playmaker bagged a hat-trick of touchdowns in the 59-3 win at Wardie on Saturday to add to the two against Leith seven days previously to help keep his side on top of East Two.

The game against Inverleith was all but in the bag at half-time, tries from Duncan Nicolson, James Atkin and Hughes along with five points from the boot of Dan Arrandale putting the hosts 20-3 up.

Two tries quickly after the break by Marius Briedenhann were then added to by two more from Hughes and one apiece from Jonathan Beaton, Jeremy Harper and Andy Hill.

Elsewhere in East Two on Saturday Edinburgh Northern stay in third after a fine 45-3 win away at Walkerburn and Leith stay in mid-table after a 36-10 loss at second placed Gala YM.

RDVC beat Queensferry, but Liberton lost heavily to St Boswells.

In East One Portobello beat Hawick Harlequins 27-16 but still trail leaders Duns by 12 points. Moray House defeated Penicuik 22-5, Dalkeith posted a fine 25-19 win at Lismore, Trinity Accies won 10-3 at Earlston and Dunbar lost 34-15 to Duns at Hallhill.
