Rugby: Hastings puts Danielli top of comeback list

FORMER cap record holder Scott Hastings is calling for the return of Simon Danielli to Scotland's rugby side against Italy in Rome on Saturday.

Injuries to the entire back three will force coach Andy Robinson to re-organise the wings and full back positions when naming a side later today.

But Hastings believes options exist with Danielli top of the comeback list.

"Simon Danielli has had a very strong season. He's scored some good tries for Ulster.

"He blows hot and cold at times but it will be no surprise if he finds his way in," said Hastings.

"I think Danielli will come in without any shadow of doubt.

"Hugo Southwell is a natural slot in at full back and I'd like to see Sean Lamont back on the wing. He is more of a wing than a centre.

"Let Sean have free licence in the game and be a ball wrecker in defence as well."

While Danielli was scoring a try for Ulster at the weekend, Southwell's Stade Francais beat Bouggoin.
