Rugby: Edinburgh plea for fans’ backing against Cardiff

EDINBURGH players Matt Scott and Simon Webster have called on supporters to turn out in numbers once more as the team returns to Heineken Cup action at Murrayfield Stadium this week.

The last match in the competition at Murrayfield was an unforgettable affair which attracted a season-high attendance of 5,067 to roar on the capital club when they secured a thrilling 48-47 win over Racing Metro.

Cardiff Blues are the visitors on Friday (kick-off 8pm), one week after Scotland stand-off Dan Parks kicked the Welsh side to victory over Edinburgh at Cardiff City Stadium.

Scott and Webster have been passed fit for the rematch and were on hand yesterday to promote a £25 family ticket offer (two adults, two under-18s) for the big match.

Centre Scott said: “The crowd was incredible for the Racing Metro match and played a huge part in the game when the boys needed to draw on every resource available to come back in the match. Success in the Heineken Cup means winning your home games and we need our supporters to come out in force again as we look for the win that could return us to the top of our Pool two with two games to go.”

Edinburgh’s unbeaten run in the competition came to an end at Cardiff City Stadium last weekend which meant the Blues leapfrogged the Murrayfield men to take the top spot. Scott is eyeing a return to the Edinburgh back-line after being forced off with a hip injury in the Racing Metro match when the score was poised at 17-17.

He added: “They [Cardiff] showed how strong they are at home last weekend and now it’s our turn to entertain them at Murrayfield so it’s up to us to make the most of home advantage.”
