Rugby: Edinburgh need to toughen up, says Telfer

EDINBURGH'S under-achieving rugby side are being urged to toughen up and draft foreign talent ahead of next season.

The advice comes from former Lions and Scotland boss Jim Telfer in a withering attack on attitudes within Capital coach Rob Moffat's squad who missed out on Magners League play-offs. "There's a distinct lack of hard, no-nonsense leaders in their squad and if there's still money in the kitty, I would advise Rob Moffat to invest in a couple of experienced foreigners, one back and one forward."

"Edinburgh players are all so nice," added Telfer who makes it clear, too, that as well as having individuals who he considers soft, Edinburgh are falling short in terms of bringing on young talent.

In his latest STV rugby blog Telfer says: "Edinburgh, it seems, are treading water as far as development is concerned.

"I note that they have signed a number of talented young Scots but in losing Ally Hogg and possibly David Callam it leaves a huge hole in experience and leadership."
