Rugby: Eagles lose Grand Final

Edinburgh Eagles had their winning run in the Scottish Rugby League Grand Final ended by Carluke Tigers at Braidholm in Glasgow, the home of GHA Rugby Club.

The Capital side had lifted the silverware in the three previous seasons but lost this time, 18-10.

The scoreline remained blank throughout a fiercely-contested opening 25 minutes but Tigers broke the deadlock with a try from Kyle Matheson, converted by Ross Bryan. And a touchdown by Jamie McAulay gave them a 10-0 lead at the interval.

Eagles raised the pace after the restart and fought their way back into the game with a try by Mike Wallace.

However, despite continuing to press, they were unable to add to their tally and an error on the Tigers line allowed their opponents to break away and claim a third try through Bryan.

And, although Eagles clawed their way to within four points with a try from Gregor Porteous, Bryan sealed the silverware with his second score.
