Rugby: Dickinson adamant there’s more to come from Scots

Scottish rugby try-hero Ally Dickinson insists there is much more to come from the side following Saturday’s 23-12 victory over Italy at Murrayfield which rounded off match preparations for next month’s World Cup in New Zealand.

Former Heriot’s and Edinburgh prop Dickinson, now with Sale Sharks, notched a first touchdown on his 21st cap appearance and then maintained that the Scots had not shown all their hand in a build-up which also included victory over Ireland.

After a match in which Nikki Walker picked up a knee injury that rules him out of the World Cup, Dickinson said of Scotland’s chances: “We have three weeks until the first game (against Romania) and we’ll keep working to improve. The great thing about the Ireland and Italy games is we have been creating opportunities. We just have to get our finishing a bit better but the fact we are creating these chances is a positive.

“Whatever team takes the field in New Zealand will hopefully see Romania off.”

The match was a rare example of Scotland leading from start to finish, even if they came within a missed conversion of slipping behind at one stage.

Dickinson said: “It was massive that we were always ahead. At 13-12 the momentum was swinging away from us a bit. But we had a few words behind the posts and got back downfield.”
