Rugby: Danielli shoulder injury looks to offer both boost and blow

The good news for Edinburgh Rugby is that they might not have to face the threat posed by exiled Scottish winger Simon Danielli.

He was due to play in Friday's vital Magners league clash with unbeaten Ulster at Murrayfield, but the bad news for Scotland is that a shoulder injury which forced Danielli off in the 24th minute of Ulster's weekend Heineken European Cup defeat in Biarritz may have damaged his chances of being available when Scotland national coach Andy Robinson names an elongated Autumn Test squad tomorrow.

For Danielli it is yet another blow after having to undergo shoulder surgery in the wake of gaining a 26th Scotland cap in the second Test win over Argentina during the summer. That means a door could now open for uncapped Jim Thompson who moved off the bench when Danielli returned.
