Rugby: Bury absent as 'Muir bid to find a way past Kirkcaldy

BOROUGHMUIR will be without star winger Tom Bury when they seek to launch their bid for a bit of Scottish Hydro cup rugby history at Kirkcaldy tonight.

No side has won the trophy four times and, with Glasgow Hawks eliminated by Stirling County last weekend, only Boroughmuir are in a position to complete that feat this season.

However, for starters they must oust potentially dangerous opponents to earn a first round proper tie away to Cartha QP on Saturday.

Ex-Scotland under-20 winger Bury been called into the hybrid Gael Force side comprising academy players and fringe professionals for a British and Irish Cup tie at Newport on Friday and he could be missed against Fife opponents who currently occupy a halfway mark in Division Two. Evidence of Kirkcaldy's abilities is provided by the fact they have won at both Jed and Gala this term.

'Muir are also without scrum half Stuart McGee and flanker Joni Hare (both injured) but Euan Matheson is fit to captain the side and Jamie Doubleday will be back from representing Scottish Universities to pack down alongside him in the breakaway trio.
