Rugby: Brown boost for city side’s 1872 Cup bid

Edinburgh Rugby have been given a boost with international back Tom Brown likely to be available for at least part of the home and away 1872 Cup contests with Glasgow over the festive period.

Full back/winger Brown was injured during last week’s defeat by Racing Metro in Paris amidst fears he had suffered serious knee damage.

However, Capital coach Michael Bradley today offered re-assurances, saying: “Tom’s injury was not as bad as it looked.

“It’s bruising to the bone which means he could be back in a week or it might take a couple of weeks.”

Meanwhile, second row Rob McAlpine, 21, goes into his first European Cup start insisting Edinburgh will look to run heavier Racing Metro off their feet,

“Racing are a big, physical side but hopefully we are much more manoeuvrable and they will get tired. I can offer ability to get around the park and get in the air a bit quicker than some of them,” said the 6ft 7in and 17st 11lb prospect.
