Rugby: Boroughmuir given a harsh Grammar lesson in Aberdeen

Boroughmuir completed their pre-split RBS Premiership programme in downbeat style when they suffered a second successive defeat, this time succumbing 25-11 away to Aberdeen Grammar.

Fergus Pringle’s side led at the interval thanks to a brace of penalties by Ally Warnock. However, as had been the case a week earlier, they paid the price for failing to capitalise on their first half superiority as the hosts took full advantage in the second period, and a late consolation try by Matt Harvey was the only addition to the Capital outfit’s tally.

’Muir’s conquerors the previous week, Heriot’s, were looking to build some momentum ahead of their battle for top-flight survival when they travelled to face Dundee High. The Goldenacre men produced a similarly gutsy effort but on this occasion fell agonisingly short, eventually losing 23-22.

Heriot’s were 17-0 in arrears at the break but battled their way into a two point lead with two tries from Fraser Brown and one by Max Learmonth, while Graham Wilson kicked two conversions and a penalty. However, the hosts struck with the final action of the game when home stand off Cam Brown slotted a penalty to snatch victory.

There was an equally tight affair at Inverleith where Division Two pacesetters Stewart’s Melville were last-ditch 21-20 winners against Selkirk.

In Division Three, Lasswade were on the road to face Cartha Queens Park but lost 41-7.

Haddington also suffered another loss, this time by 22-5 at home to Greenock Wanderers.
