Roy Keane lambasts '˜shocking'˜ Celtic after Anderlecht loss

• Celtic are not learning from European mistakes, says Roy Keane

The Republic of Ireland No 2 and former Hoops midfielder took issue with Brendan Rodgers’ comments after the game, after the ex-Liverpool manager insisted his players ‘deserved a great amount of credit’.

Rdogers added: “They won’t feel good tonight because we’ve lost the game but if you look over the course of the six games: we had a great result out there [in Belgium], we’ve put in some decent performances, not got the results.

“Tonight the best team won. The players have achieved their overall objective, to get to the Europa League. We’ve done that having been the fourth seed in the group, it’s a great testament to the actual players getting through.

“Like I say, there’s still a hell of a lot of work to do.”

But Keane, summarising for ITV on the channel’s Champions League highlights show, rubbished Rodgers’ take on the game, saying: “I think the key to management nowadays is to set your standards really, really low and you’ll be in the game for a long time.

“I thought it was a shocking result, a really, really poor performance. Brendan’s talking there about it being a great achievement. It’s not just acceptable for Celtic, it really isn’t’.

“Losing at home to Anderlecht? Come on, give me a break.”

Celtic qualified for the Europa League knockout stages despite winning just one match and finishing with a goal difference of minus 13 from Group B.

Keane has frequently questioned Celtic’s mindset in European games and warned that they were not learning from their mistakes after their defeat to Bayern Munich in October.
