Rowing: Scots rowers cruise home in Munich

Scotland’s three-times Olympic champion Katherine Grainger and her double sculls partner Anna Watkins had an easy win yesterday in their opening heat at the Rowing World Cup in Munich and booked a place in tomorrow’s final.

They led from the first stroke and cruised home well ahead of the field. However, the final is going to be much more testing as they will face world silver medallists Australia.

Lossiemouth’s Heather Stanning and her pairs partner Helen Glover also led their opening heat from the first stroke to qualify for tomorrow’s final against New Zealand.

Other British first-day winners were Allan Campbell in single sculls, the women’s lightweight double scull, the men’s lightweight four and the men’s eight.
