Rowing: McBrierty collects world junior silver

Callum McBrierty of Edinburgh's George Watson's College won silver at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Racice, the Czech Republic yesterday, in men's coxless fours.

The British quartet had won their opening heat earlier in the week to qualify direct for the final, but they found Romania, winners of the other opening heat, too fast to handle in the final and were second behind them all the way down the course. The British team eventually crossed the line some three seconds down on the gold medallists.

Later, the British women's junior eight took gold, ahead of silver medallists USA and bronze medallists Germany.
