Rotheram Titans 20 - 20 Ayr: Ayr tame Titans in another fine B&I Cup performance

AYR director of rugby Jock Craig proved himself to be a master of understatement when he labelled his side's British and Irish Cup displays south of the Border "pretty good."

On the back of their fine win over Birmingham and Solihull, the Millbrae men emerged as the equal of a Titans outfit with Premiership aspirations.

Craig refused to get carried away as he declared: "I will settle for that - to be undefeated after two matches in quick succession in England has got to be regarded as a pretty good achievement by the club."

And it would have been even better had it not been for Grant Anderson's late missed penalty. The 17-year-old playmaker Robbie Fergusson snatched Ayr's first touchdown, while star guest Johnnie Beattie, aiming for a place in Scotland's Six Nations line-up, burst into the spotlight for a fine score in the aftermath of a line-out.

Ayr were then put under the cosh when full-back Pete Swatkins pounced for a Rotherham try following a charged down clearance. James added the extras, but Anderson levelled the contest with a try in the corner.
