Rogne set on cementing his Celtic berth

THOMAS ROGNE is confident he can capture one of the two central defensive berths at Parkhead when he returns from injury.

The Celtic defender, 19, pulled a hamstring in the 1-0 defeat by Rangers at Ibrox in February in what was only his third game for the club since signing from Norwegian club Stabeak in January.

While fellow teenager Josh Thompson and Darren O'Dea are in possession of the centre-back positions at the moment, Rogne is still a fortnight away from being back in contention alongside Jos Hooiveld and Glenn Loovens who are also returning from similar injuries.

Rogne is determined not to ponder too much on his bad luck and instead focus on securing a first-team place.

He said: "It is never a good time to be injured but maybe I felt a little extra bad because I was actually in the team when it happened. And I was really disappointed to come off in the Old Firm game. I was looking forward to the game for a long time.

"But you can't think like that, it would just destroy you. You just have to look forward.

"I always have to believe in myself, of course, but there are a lot of good players and some are coming back from injury now and so there is great competition for places. You never know, it's up to the manager but all I have to think about is doing my best and hopefully that is enough.

"The injury is getting better. Maybe I will be fully fit in one or two weeks. Hopefully I will be back for the Scottish Cup semi-final."
