Rodents hope to sniff out a win in 10-a-side title defence

One of Edinburgh’s most far travelled rugby “club’s” takes to the field at Raeburn Place tomorrow (11am) seeking to defend the Hunter’s Residential 10-a-side tournament.

Since forming a few years ago Rodent Rugby, a team of occasional players, have won tournaments as far afield as Barcelona and Mull while also contesting finals in Helsinki and Berlin.

Former Scotland under-19 full back Alan Nash, from Watsonians, captains the Rodents and says: “We are a team of friends who love getting together to throw a rugby ball around.

“However, once a game gets under way the camaraderie really pulls us together and we try to put on a performance. This year our team includes Craig Sorbie, who claimed Scottish rugby’s try of the season award playing for GHA, while Richard Snedden is a clubs’ internationalist and Mark Cairns has represented Scotland Sevens.

“Others turning out in our yellow, white and blue jersey include Chris Weir, a Scottish Cup winner with Gala.”

Opposition includes select teams from Stockholm and Paris as well as the Pigbarians, an invitational side who compete to raise money for the children’s charity, Dreamz4U.

Their line up includes Currie wing Alan Whittingham and scrum half Callum Cusiter, who won a Championship medal with Boroughmuir.
