Robertson wants United to land first blow against Accies

David ROBERTSON insists the key to playing against Hamilton is to hurt them before they get the chance to frustrate you.

The Dundee United midfielder is gearing up to face Accies tonight in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and knows the first goal will be crucial in deciding the outcome of a match that could take the Arabs a step closer to the securing a top-six berth. United conceded the opener against Billy Reid's men a fortnight ago, and despite dominating the game, could only come away from New Douglas Park with a 1-1 draw thanks to a late leveller from Andis Shala.

Accies have made a habit of getting under United's skin at Tannadice in recent seasons, so Robertson knows scoring the opening goal would have a massive impact on the flow of the game.

He said: "The big thing when you are playing a side like Hamilton is scoring first and early on if possible. I think that's especially the case at home.

"They will have a game-plan to come here and sit in, with probably just one up front so we know what to expect."

Robertson missed an easy chance against Accies last time and revealed his team-mates are still on his case about it.

He said: "I had a fairly easy chance against Hamilton down there the last time but I missed it. I should have scored so I was getting a bit of stick from the lads in the dressing-room.

"It was quite right of them too, but hopefully if any chances come my way then I'll put them away this time round."

United will tonight play their second match of a five-game home run which they have to cram into just 12 days, and boss Peter Houston has had to alter his training schedules and rotate the squad to give his players a rest.
