Riordan upset at Scots snub

HIBERNIAN striker Derek Riordan last night admitted he is at a loss as to why he was left out of the Scotland squad for the 3-0 friendly defeat in Sweden in midweek, but says Craig Levein can't ignore him again if he keeps scoring goals.

Strike quartet Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller, Steven Fletcher and Chris Iwelumo all got the nod for the trip to Sweden ahead of the 27-year-old, with James McFadden named as a midfielder. The same five were included for Levein's opening win against the Czech Republic in March. Riordan, who netted 17 goals last term from a largely left midfield role and has also enjoyed a prolific pre-season, admits he can hardly do more to press his claims. He said: "If I'm honest, I don't really know what it's going to take to get in the squad. That's up to the manager to decide.

"I've done well enough to be in the Scotland squad considering the amount of goals I scored from midfield last season. Only Charlie Adam scored more goals from midfield and only Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd scored more. I think that's not bad going. I just think you can't keep scoring goals and getting refused. It's disappointing to be left out."
