Rich pickings at Hamilton

ONE of the highlights of the Scottish racing calendar, Braveheart Night, takes place at Hamilton tonight with the £45,000 William Hill Braveheart Stakes helping to make it the richest race in the Lanarkshire track's calendar.

A field of nine goes to post for the 6.55pm race, including Brian Ellison's highly-regarded 109-rated Saptapadi, formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Mark Johnston has three entries, and Jutland is napped to be the pick of them after an impressive success at Chester last week.

Elsewhere on the seven-race card, Clara Zetkin might have got into the williamhill.com Handicap lightly off a mark of 75, especially with claimer Declan Cannon taking another 3lb off.

Vivien Kyles, chief executive of Hamilton, said: "This fixture is a massive night for Hamilton Park but also a big night for Scottish racing given the amount of prizemoney on offer."
