Rep of Ireland v Iceland: Skipper Robbie Keane eager to play on for Irish

Republic of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane will lead his country for the 40th time in tonight's Euro 2012 battle with Macedonia at the Aviva Stadium, equalling Andy Townsend's record.

However, having missed most of the last six weeks with a calf injury, it remains to be seen if he lasts the 90 minutes.

Keane stressed, however, that he has no intentions of retiring from international football as he prepares to win his 105th cap. The 30-year-old said: "I want to play as long as I can. I have always wanted to play for my country, and that will never change. But if someone young and fit came in and did a better job than me, I would be happy enough."

Keane's presence in the squad represents a boost for manager Giovanni Trapattoni, who has seen his resources stretched to the limit. In attack, Leon Best has returned to Newcastle with an injury problem and Jon Walters will not be considered following the birth of his third child.

Richard Dunne will start after shaking off a shoulder injury, but his usual central defensive partner, Sean St Ledger, has been ruled out with a knee problem.

With Shay Given and John O'Shea also missing, Trapattoni's defence will have an inexperienced look with goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, Darren O'Dea and Kevin Foley having just 12 caps between them, and none of them in competitive games.
