Reid reaches Roland Garros

GORDON Reid has become the first British player to qualify for the men’s wheelchair singles at the French Open.

The 21-year-old Scot will be in the eight-man field at Roland Garros next month after a superb start to the year that has seen him climb to sixth in the world rankings.

He said: “I’m very excited to have earned a place in the field for my first grand slam singles event after what has been a great year so far. I’m really looking forward to getting on to the clay in Paris and giving it my best shot.”

British women’s No 1 Lucy Shuker has also qualified and will play at Roland Garros for the third time, although it is the first time in four years.
