Record bid is Knockhill highlight

A BID to shatter a Formula 1 track record is one of the star attractions at Knockhill today when the Fife circuit hosts the two-day MotorFair, the annual Scottish Motor Show.

More than 30,000 people are expected at the track over the weekend to see cars worth well in excess of 5 million from manufacturers including Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Lotus, Morgan, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Ford, Vauxhall and Renault.

But it is the motorsport action which will generate as much interest. While Colin McRae's stunning 1995 World Rally Championship-winning Subaru will be on static display, as will the Peugeot 207 driven my McRae protegee Kris Meeke to last year's IRC title, it's the 2003 Arrows F1 car which will make the most noise.

Driven by former Euroboss Masters champion Tony Hansford, the former Pedro de la Rosa Arrows car will make three attempts over the weekend to break the lap record round the daunting 1.3-mile circuit.

The current record is 41.5 seconds, set by Aberdeen's Nathan Kinch in a 2003 Rubens Barrichello Ferrari in 2006.
