Ranking list for women

FOLLOWING the success of the Men's World Amateur Golf Ranking, a women's equivalent is now being launched by the R&A, with the first listings to be announced by the St Andrews-based body later this month.

Two-time Curtis Cup player Sally Watson, who is at Stanford University in California, or Stirling University student Kelsey MacDonald are likely to be the leading Scot in those inaugural rankings, though Pamela Pretswell could also figure prominently on the back of her win in the British Women's Stroke-play Championship last year.

"The World Amateur Golf Ranking has been embraced by amateur associations and professional Tours alike in men's golf, and we are delighted to be able to now offer this same service to the women's game," said R&A director Mike Tate.

Ladies Golf Union chairwoman Gillian Kirkwood added: "The Ladies Golf Union welcomes the women's ranking as a very useful tool for the comparison of players."
