Ralph strike not enough as Scots brushed aside

HOCKEY: Scotland completed their testing weekend in Auderghem suffering a 5-1 reversal at the hands of a Belgian side ranked 13th in the world.

Russell Garcia's men did open the scoring early on when a penalty stroke was competently converted by Kelburne's Mark Ralph. However, despite going on to create many gilt edged opportunities which they somehow contrived to either miss or hit the woodwork, they found themselves level at half-time.

The Belgians started the second-half very strongly and hit the Scots with four more goals.

Meanwhile the men's under-21 team also completed a hard weekend in soaring temperatures in Terrassa, losing their final match 2-0 to Spain who are the reigning Junior European champions. Derek Forsyth's young team found themselves a goal down at the interval after conceding a poor goal from a defensive point of view.

The Spanish added a second after the break to complete the scoring.
