Racing: Party punters keep schtum

OFTEN when a gamble is landed in style at a racecourse, it can be like a whodunnit trying to find out where the shrewd money came from. And so it proved at Newcastle yesterday. Trainer Jennie Candlish denied all knowledge of a monster gamble on Party Rock after her runner romped home by ten lengths in the handicap hurdle.

Available to back at 13-2 in the morning, Party Rock was a red-hot 11-10 favourite. But referring to the gamble after her runner was home and hosed, Candlish insisted: “It definitely wasn’t my money.”
