Racing: Lucinda Russell wins 239-1 Perth treble

TRAINER Lucinda Russell enjoyed a 239-1 treble at Perth last night.

First, the Arlary House trainer teamed up with jockey Peter Buchanan for a double as Shooting Times (13-2) and Wild Geese (3-1) both won their respective handicap chases. Russell then completed her hat-trick in the closing novices’ handicap hurdle when Momkinzain (7-1) triumphed under a confident ride from Craig Nichol.

On a poor night for punters, which saw none of the seven favourites make it into the winner’s enclosure, the biggest shock came in the Bruce Farms Hunters Chase as 22-1 shot Back On The Road, ridden by Nick Alexander and trained by Jamie Alexander, prevailed.

Meanwhile, the champion jockey Tony McCoy is set to return to action at Ludlow today. McCoy sustained broken ribs in a bad fall from Nicky Henderson’s Quantitativeeasing at Cheltenham last month, an injury that ruled him out of the concluding weeks of the season. The 18-times champion will ride Church Field, trained by Jonjo O’Neill.
