Racing: Goldie has hopes of Another For Joe

JIM Goldie is looking to Another For Joe to bag the £8,000 Taggarts Motor Group Scottish Trophy at Hamilton for the second year running.

The Uplawmoor raider landed the 9f handicap 12 months ago off a 2lb higher mark and his trainer said: “We were looking for softer ground but the rain hasn’t materialised yet. It was heavy when he won last year and he loves juice underfoot.

“He’s in stall ten so we haven’t been lucky with the draw either, but he’s going there to win and he’s in decent form. Because of the draw he’ll have to drop in and play catch-up but he loves the track and both his wins have come over course and distance.”

Another For Joe faces nine rivals including Argaki, trained by Keith ­Dalgleish and ridden by fellow Hawick-born Jason Hart, who said: “I won on him at ­Musselburgh last week and he’s got a 6lb penalty. He’s a nice simple ride and Hamilton should suit him even better. The trip is slightly longer and I can see him finishing strongly up the hill. He should go well again and he’s already been very consistent this season.”

Meanwhile, Borderlescott will defend his crown in the Betfred Beverley Bullet at the Westwood on Saturday as long as the going remains on the fast side.

The 11-year-old lifted the listed five-furlong dash 12 months ago from stall one and pleased trainer Robin Bastiman in a workout yesterday. Bastiman wanted to test the well-being of his veteran sprinter, who was denied the chance of a third triumph in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York last week when the rain came. The Wetherby handler said: “If his blood’s all right he’ll run at Beverley. He won it from stall one last year and you do need a draw there.

“There doesn’t seem to be much rain around so it should be fast ground which is what he wants.

“He seems OK and he did his final bit of work on Wednesday morning.

“He was a bit fresh, he went well and we were quite pleased with him, so we’ll see on Saturday.”

Also at the weekend, trainer Jim Bolger will not make a call on whether to give Dawn Approach’s sister Prudent Approach her racecourse debut in Sunday’s Moyglare Stud Stakes until declaration time. It would be brave to pitch an unraced maiden against proven fillies such as Kiyoshi and Tapestry in the Curragh Group 1 but she does have the pedigree to be competitive.
