Kano’s Ghirl carries the colours of Lamont Racing who named the filly after Glasgow-based children’s charity Kano Foundation, which takes youngsters under 13 to some top football matches.

Meanwhile, Hamilton have bolstered their management team with two key appointments. Ashley Moon has been promoted from commercial manager to the new role of head of marketing and operations while Ann Doyle has been recruited as sales manager. Both will report to chief executive Vivien Kyles who says the appointments underline recent business success and ambitions for further growth by continuing to increase the number of events being held at the racecourse throughout the year.

Today, although Saint Boniface hardly boasts encouraging statistics, he can finally record his first victory in 15 attempts in the BBC Radio Bristol Handicap at Bath. Despite having shown spits and spots of form at Lingfield and Brighton, the Peter Makin-trained Saint Boniface had slipped to a career-low mark over here a couple of weeks ago.

He very nearly cashed in, too, as he enjoyed the step up to a mile and a quarter to take second place behind Precision Five.

Considering that rival was in the middle of a golden run, Makin must have been very happy with Saint Boniface, especially as he was entering unchartered territory from a distance perspective. Little wonder he is hurled back into the fray over course and distance in what arguably looks an even weaker race than last time.

The chestnut son of Bahamian Bounty has gone up just 1lb for this, while Seb Sanders’ return to the saddle is never a bad thing.
