PSV Eindhoven limber up for Europa League tie with last-gasp victory to stay top of league

BALAZS Dzsudzsak's injury-time penalty earned PSV Eindhoven a 3-2 win at Excelsior ahead of their Europa League tie with Rangers this week, which kept them three points clear of FC Twente at the top of the Eredivisie.

The defeat was cruel on the struggling hosts who looked to have earned a draw with their own last-gasp spot-kick from on-loan Hibs midfielder Edwin de Graaf Guyon Fernandez gave Excelsior a surprise lead in the 22nd minute, but Jeremain Lens and Atiba Hutchinson scored in the space of three second-half minutes to give PSV the advantage before the late drama.

Twente had earlier maintained their title challenge with a hard-fought 2-0 win over NAC Breda. The defending champions rode their luck early on before securing their 16th win of the season courtesy of second-half goals from Luuk de Jong and Nacer Chadli.

Napoli remain third but slipped further back following a 0-0 draw at home to Brescia and are now eight points behind Milan.

Genoa opened the scoring in the first half through Rodrigo Palacio, but the strike sparked a fierce response by Inter after half-time. Giampaolo Pazzini drew Inter level early in the second half and Samuel Eto'o put Inter out of sight with a well-taken brace. Goran Pandev wrapped up the win with a fourth before Yuto Nagatomo scored his first goal since joining Inter in January. Mauro Boselli then scored a late second for Genoa.

"We started a bit timidly and lacked rhythm," Pazzini said. "Things were said in the changing room and we came out and won the match in 15 minutes."

Bologna and Cagliari drew 2-2 while Chievo Verona and Parma drew 0-0, Udinese beat Bari 1-0 and Sampdoria beat Cesena 3-2.
