Proud day for Novikovas in Kharkov

TEENAGE Hearts winger Arvydas Novikovas has spoken of his pride after making a full international debut for Lithuania against Ukraine last week.

The 19-year-old played 55 minutes of his country's 4-0 loss in Kharkov on Tuesday before being replaced by Robertas Poskus. Despite the substantial defeat, he is ambitious for further recognition from Raimondas Zutautas, Lithuania's national coach.

Novikovas evolved into a regular at under-21 level after making his debut as a 16-year-old and said he intends to establish himself at Tynecastle next season in order to improve his full international prospects.

"It was an exciting occasion for me and a very proud moment for me and my family," said Novikvoas. "I think I could have played better, though. The boss told me after the game to keep my chin up and that's what I'll do and I hope to get another invite to play for the national team next time.

"If I can keep doing as well as I can at Hearts, then that will hopefully give me the chance of playing more games for my country."
