Pressure is on Tranent to win and keep chasing pack at bay

BRIAN JOHNSTON is determined one of the teams chasing his Tranent side in the South Division title race don't get a "mammoth boost" tomorrow.

Steve Pittman's Broxburn head to Forresters Park trailing the league leaders by eight points but have four games in hand.

Johnston said: "There's still a long way to go, and they'll get a mammoth boost if we don't manage to take all three points so the emphasis on us more in this game than them."

Tranent are on a good run of form, having won five of their last six games and drawing the other one. By contrast, Broxburn appear to have gone off the boil a bit, drawing at West Calder in the league recently and then losing to Spartans in the Fife & Lothians Cup last weekend.

"We've not played each other his season – we've been scheduled to play them three times but it was cancelled each time – but I know they're a strong side so it will certainly be competitive," added Johnston.

"I was a bit surprised to see them lose to Spartans, to be honest, though they are also a good (South Division] side and everyone is capable of beating each other in this league."

In some of tomorrow's other South League games, second-placed Blackburn are at home to West Calder, Dalkeith Thistle entertain Haddington Athletic, Edinburgh United welcome Dunbar Utd while Spartans travel to Stoneyburn.

In the Premier League, Penicuik's joint-managers, Craig Meikle and Brian Ryrie, will be hoping to build on last week's goalless draw at Ballingry when they entertain Forfar while Arniston are at home to Carnoustie.
