Pressley joins Danish club Randers until end of the year

STEVEN Pressley has joined Danish top-flight club Randers on a deal until the end of the year.

The experienced former Celtic defender has signed a short-term contract with the Superliga outfit after being impressed on a recent tour of the club. Pressley, a free agent after his contract with the SPL champions expired this summer, has decided for a move aboard after failing to land a deal at both Doncaster and Blackpool following trials.

The 34 year-old's immediate priority as Scotland coach is to help national team manager George Burley prepare the players for the forthcoming World Cup qualifying double header against Macedonia and Iceland.

However, he will link up with Rangers, who are managed by Englishman Colin Todd, after the crucial double header.

Todd said: "We have signed Steven until the end of our winter window in December.

"The door was open after our skipper, who was a defender, left and I needed someone with experienced and a big heart. It's a good opportunity for him to get first team football and to enjoy his football.

"The good thing about Danish football too is that everyone speaks English. Steven is obviously involved in the Scotland set-up as well and I told him I would not stand in his way of that. He will join up with us on the Thursday after the game against Iceland."

Former Scotland defender Pressley, who has turned out for Rangers, Hearts and Dundee United during his career, joins a club that are fifth in the Danish top-flight after six matches.

Pressley could make his debut when Randers take on Horsens on September 14.

Meanwhile, Pressley believes Kenny Miller can repeat his Old Firm goalscoring feats for Scotland. Miller opened his account in his second spell with Rangers with a brace in the 4-2 win over his former club Celtic at Parkhead. The Scotland coach said Miller's dream double can only benefit the national team as they start their campaign to qualify for South Africa in 2010. Pressley said: "I don't think anyone can question Kenny's performances for the national team.

"Over the course of the last few years he's performed to an exceptional standard with the national team.

"It'll be great to see him coming in full of confidence and hopefully we'll benefit from that over the two games ahead. Strikers scoring goals are always confident but we've had no reservations about Kenny and his performances have not suggested he's lacking in confidence for the national team."
