Premiership round-up: Craig Gardner brace gives Birmingham all three points at St Andrews

Birmingham City 2, Blackburn 1

CRAIG GARDNER struck twice and Ben Foster boosted his England credentials with a brilliant display of goalkeeping as Birmingham came from behind to beat Blackburn at St Andrew's.

After a dire first half, the visitors were ahead as Steven Nzonzi headed in a corner but Gardner turned the game around, converting a brilliant James McFadden pass in the 57th minute and then beating Paul Robinson from 30 yards for the winner with 19 minutes left.

SYLVAN Ebanks-Blake struck in the 75th minute to salvage an unlikely point for Wolves and leave David Moyes' Everton still searching for their first win.

Tim Cahill's 43rd-minute strike seemed set to get the home side's campaign up and running, but with the visitors' first shot on target Ebanks-Blake coolly slotted home a cross from Kevin Doyle.

Stoke City 1, Tottenham Hotspur 2

A FIRST Premier League double by Gareth Bale helped Tottenham win 2-1 at Stoke but the hosts were furious a late goal by debutant Jon Walters was not allowed.

Tottenham took the lead in fortuitous fashion in the 19th minute when Ryan Shawcross's clearance hit Bale in the face and rebounded into the net.

Ricardo Fuller equalised for Stoke in the 25th minute but Tottenham went back in front before half-time thanks to Bale's spectacular left-foot volley.

West Bromwich 1, Sunderland 0

PETER Odemwingie scored late in his West Bromwich Albion debut in a 1-0 win over Sunderland.

Odemwingie found the net in the 81st minute as West Brom rebounded from a 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

The 29-year-old forward collected a pass from James Morrison before turning and scoring past goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

JOHAN Elmander scored twice as Bolton extended their winning run against West Ham to seven matches.

Bolton weathered a first-half hammering - including a missed penalty from Carlton Cole - and snatched the lead with a Matthew Upson own goal four minutes after the restart.

Elmander planted a near-post header past Robert Green before West Ham secured a lifeline, when Scott Parker won a second penalty and Mark Noble converted.

But Elmander wrapped up the points with a low shot past Green after some more slack West Ham defending.
