Pittman has high hopes in race to go up

STEVE PITTMAN reckons Broxburn are still in with a fighting chance of joining St Andrews United in making the step up to the Super League next season.

The Fifers clinched promotion with a win over Broxburn last weekend, but the West Lothian side remain in the running for the second spot along with a clutch of other clubs.

"It's anyone's guess at the moment who'll go up along with St Andrews," said Pittman ahead of his side's trip to Penicuik tomorrow.

Broxburn are currently lying third, a point behind Carnoustie but with a game in hand, with Glenrothes and Ballingry still in the race as well.

"After Penicuik, we've got Armadale then Broughty Athletic to play and I still think we've got a very good chance of going up," said Pittman. "One good thing for us is that Carnoustie and Glenrothes have to play each other twice and it's the same with Ballingry and Glenrothes."

Broxburn missed two penalties in the 1-0 defeat to St Andrews - John Jeffrey and Paul Shields being the unlucky duo.

"Neither of them will be taking it if we get a penalty on Saturday," said the Broxburn boss.

"I shouted to Craig Young to take the second one last weekend but Paul decided to take it and you can't give someone stick for having the confidence to put themselves on the spot."

Pittman added: "We played Penicuik a few weeks back and they were one of the better sides we have faced this season.

"We were leading 1-0 when they missed a clear-cut chance and 20 seconds later we went up the other end of the park and added a second goal.

"They're a very good side and we certainly won't be taking anything for granted."
