Philip McLean finishes day top of the pile in Georgia

PETERHEAD'S Philip McLean finished at the head of a world class line-up of amateurs after round one of the Jones Cup Invitational at Sea Island in Georgia.

Last year's Scottish Champion of Champions title winner carded a three-under 69 on a day of heavy rain and high winds which led to only three players from a field of 84 breaking par.

McLean finished two strokes ahead of nearest rivals, Matt Nagy and Romain Wattel. Colville Park's Ross Kellett had to settle for a 79 while former Scottish Boys' champion James White had an 81. Steven McEwan struggled to an 85.
