Perratt trains her mum a winner

LINDA Perratt, who only trains five minutes from the track, landed the Racing Post Form With Totepool Handicap with High Resolution at Hamilton where racing was given the go-ahead after two inspections.

The gelding, sent off at 8-1 and owned by Perratt’s mother Helen, came from last to first to pip long-time leader Robert The Painter by half a length under Hawick-born apprentice Garry Whillans.

Perratt, who operates from just outside East Kilbride, said: “Mum couldn’t be here today as she had a little fall in the house on Sunday but she’s fine and will feel even better after this!

“She’s leading owner at Hamilton in 2012 with one meeting to go and her colours could be flying from the grandstand next year if she remains in front.”

Lambourn-based Jo Hughes ended a spell on the cold list when 8-1 Exzachary upset the 1-3 favourite Fraserburgh in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Maiden Stakes.

After 56 days and 35 runners without success, the winning trainer said: “It’s good to be back in the winners’ enclosure. Our horses have been a bit quiet after a good start to the season but overall I can’t complain as its been a great first full year for me.

“J P [Guillambert] said this horse handled the ground well but was still a little green. He tried the hood on him for the first time and we’ll probably look at a nursery for him now.”

Meanwhile, Godolphin’s Quick Wit has been left at the head of the weights for the Betfred Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on Saturday.

With David O’Meara taking out Set The Trend, the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Quick Wit, who picked up a 4lb penalty for his recent win at Doncaster, will carry top weight if he runs.

Clive Cox has also taken out Black Spirit after his win at Newbury on Saturday. Godolphin could also run Start Right and Man Of Action.

Fury, Boom And Bust and Mijhaar are also towards the head of the weights while ante-post fancies, such as Mukhadram and Chil The Kite, have stood their ground. Last year’s winner Prince Of Johanne could run again but Bronze Angel and last year’s runner-up Stevie Thunder need a few to come out to guarantee a run.

Spanish Duke could aim to give John Dunlop the perfect send off into retirement while his son, Ed, may run Dragonera.

King’s Warrior, Mull Of Killough, Making Eyes and Rewarded are also in the mix. Sir John Hawkwood, Nine realms and Blue Surf were among others taken out.

Declan Carroll is counting down the hours to post time with Swiftly Done. The Driffield handler has had his eyes on the big prize ever since the five-year-old won at Doncaster way back in early June. He endured a troubled passage last time out in the Betfred Mile at Glorious Goodwood when beaten just over three lengths into seventh.
