Penicuik put dent in Broxburn promotion hopes with victory

Penicuik took all three points in this Premier League tussle.

Broxburn needed a win to sustain their promotion hopes and with Penicuik in a rich vein of form, the home side were looking for revenge after a 4-1 away defeat at Broxburn earlier in the season to climb further up the league table.

Penicuik took the lead in the 14th minute through Craig Millar who nipped in ahead of Maley to bullet home a header from a McDermott corner kick.

In the 22nd minute, Broxburn should have equalised but a last gasp block by McDermott saved the home side. Penicuik were unlucky when, in the 38th minute, a McDermott free kick crashed back off the crossbar.

Broxburn then did equalise in the 41st minute when John Jeffrey finished off an excellent move by the visitors. But Penicuik restored their lead in the 62nd minute when Johnny Harvey lobbed Broxburn's 6ft 7in keeper Maley. Penicuik should have wrapped up the points in the 75th minute, but Maley pulled off two great saves to deny the home side. In the dying minutes of the game, Penicuik had a strong claim for a penalty turned down by referee Thomson after Maley literally blitzed Millar in the box. The result puts a dent in Broxburn's promotion hopes, but moves Penicuik further up the table.
