Paul Lawrie wants one more big win

PAUL Lawrie drove wife Marian up the wall as he twiddled his thumbs at home last week after missing the French Open with a neck injury.

Now he's hoping to get back in the good books with his biggest fan by clinching the title that would cap his career.

"If I was allowed one more win, I would like another Open - who wouldn't?" said the 1999 champion at Carnoustie. "But the Scottish Open would be next."

He's hoping a change of venue from Loch Lomond to Castle Stuart will bring a change of luck in his home Open. "My record isn't overly good, similar to my Open record over the past four or five years, so I would like to play well this week and next week," added the Aberdonian.

Lawrie, who finished sixth behind Greg Norman at Royal St George's in 1993, pulled out of last week's event in Paris after hurting his shoulder the previous week in the BMW International in Germany.

"After going to see the physio, I found that my rhomboid muscle was quite tight so I stayed at home last week and didn't do an awful lot," he said.

"I'm still not 100 per cent, but I'm fit enough to play this week. There's been a huge improvement the last two or three days and I'm ready to go."
