A spokeswoman for Aberdeen Asset said: “Still headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, Aberdeen Asset Management is a global firm which places great value in supporting home grown talent. This is the group’s first foray into the world of Formula 1 sponsorship and like so many of their other sponsorships; there is a strong Scottish connection.

“Paul hales from Uphall, Livingston and is arguably one of the most exciting drivers to emerge from Scotland in recent years. As well as the branding opportunity, this new sponsorship provides Aberdeen with access to Paul during certain race weekends.”

Martin Gilbert, chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management said: “This Formula 1 sponsorship is a new venture for us and the new association with Paul is great for our brand. The Grand Prix circuit visits many of the countries in which we operate and has a global television audience of around 500 million people; it will therefore give us the opportunity to raise our brand profile through this hugely popular sport.”

He added: “At Aberdeen we see great value in aligning our brand with hardworking, dedicated sports professionals and Paul appears to be the perfect example of this. We wish him every luck in Monaco this coming weekend and we look forward to supporting him for the remainder of the season.”

Di Resta said: “I’m delighted about my new partnership with Aberdeen Asset Management. I’ve been aware of them as a Scottish company for some time now and to have been given the opportunity to represent them globally when I race is a real pleasure.

“I realise this is a first for Aberdeen and so I’m hoping that my performance on the track will pay dividends for them. I’ve got a great deal of respect for many of their other sporting ambassadors and so to be part of their sponsorship team is fantastic.”
