The countdown to Super Bowl 55 continues as Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs prepare to do battle at NFL’s showpiece event.

Tom Brady led the Bucs to their first Super Bowl in 18 years after the quarterback threw three touchdown passes to see his side to a 31-26 win over Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game.

When is the Super Bowl 2021?

The Super Bowl has been played on the first Sunday in February for the last 16 years and is the culmination of the regular season.

This remains the same - even in a global pandemic - with Super Bowl 55 set to take place on Sunday 7 February 2021.

The game will start at 11.30pm UK time and will go through to around 3am on Monday 8 February, when the victors will be crowned.

Where is the Super Bowl going to be in 2021?

The Super Bowl takes place in a different venue to the previous year, rotating around the sport's best and biggest stadiums.

This year it will take place at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

No team has ever played the Super Bowl in their home stadium - the closest any team has come was the 2017 Minnesota Vikings who were one win away from competing at the US Bank Stadium, only to lose to the Philadelphia Eagles - until now.

The 'Ray Jay' is home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who, led by legendary quarterback Tom Brady, have become the first team to compete for the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

Who will do the halftime show in 2021?

Millions of people tune into the Super Bowl halftime show every year.

Canadian born R&B star - and three-time Grammy award winner - The Weeknd is set to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.

Last year's halftime show featured Jennifer Lopez and Shakira and drew a crowd of more than 104 million viewers on television worldwide.

Other acts to have performed at the halftime show include Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Prince.

Where is the Super Bowl for the next 5 years?

Next year's showpiece event, Super Bowl 56, will take place at the Los Angeles Stadium, with the hope of a packed out 100,000-plus crowd in attendance.

The State Farm Stadium, Glendale, will host the 2023 Super Bowl and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans will host the 2024 Super Bowl.
