Silver medals for Jake Wightman and Neil Gourley

Nick Percy won gold at the Muller British Athletics Championships in Manchester to make it a discus double for Scotland.

Kirsty Law defended her title on Friday and Percy did the same yesterday at Manchester Regional Arena, with a throw of 59.74 metres on his fifth attempt.

“I am very happy to have defended the title but performance-wise I’d have liked a bit more,” Percy said.

Jake Wightman had to settle for silver as Daniel Rowden took gold in the 800 metres.

Wightman, a 1500m specialist, led on the last bend before being overtaken in the final 50m by Rowden, who clocked a time of one minute 45.94 seconds.

There were also silver medals for fellow Scots Neil Gourley, in the 1500m, and hammer thrower Chris Bennett.

Gourley, the defending champion, lost out to George Mills, son of former England defender Danny Mills.

Elsewhere, 18-year-old Keely Hodgkinson was champion in the women’s 800m, finishing in 2:03.24.

Holly Bradshaw retained her pole vault crown after clearing 4.35m. Morgan Lake also made a successful title defence as she won the high jump.

Hannah Williams won the 200m in 23.83 seconds, claiming the title her sister Jodie had won the previous year. The men’s champion was Andrew Morgan-Harrison in 20.69.
