Bruce Mouat and his Scotland curling rink complete Grand Slam set after winning title in Canada

Hosts taken down in Alberta as four-times European champions land gold

World curling champion Bruce Mouat and his team completed their collection of Grand Slam titles after beating holder Brendan Bottcher in Sunday night's Canadian Open final in Red Deer, Alberta.

The Edinburgh skip and his colleagues Hammy McMillan, Bobby Lammie and Grant Hardie already had five Slams to their name but had never won the Canadian tournament. They rectified that in style, posting their seventh victory in seven games this week as they ripped the trophy from Bottcher's grasp. A tartan two at the opening end set the tone, and although the Calgary rink briefly drew level, a steal at the fourth end gave the Scots a crucial break before another two at the sixth made it 6-3. With Mouat outscoring his opposite number 95 per cent to 73, there was no way back for Bottcher as the four-times European champions ran out 6-5 winners.
