Andy Murray takes down Yannick Hanfmann in Basel to keep up quest for Australian Open seeding

Andy Murray moved into the second round of the Swiss Indoors Basel with a straight-sets win over Yannick Hanfmann.

Murray is currently ranked 40th in the world and the 36-year-old is looking to finish the year strongly and boost his chances of being seeded for the Australian Open in January. To do that, the Scot will need to go on a run in either Basel this week or at the Paris Masters next week, with plenty of ranking points on offer.

It was the first time Hanfmann, ranked 51, had met Murray in an ATP Tour match and while he is having a good season, he was unable to compete with Murray once the rallies became extended. While the former Wimbledon champion showed frustration at being broken at pivotal points of the match, Murray can be pleased with a victory in two hours and 19 minutes.

Murray will take on either eighth seed Sebastian Korda or Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round later this week.
