Opinion can count at Doncaster

Opinion Poll can reward his growing band of supporters by winning today's Doncaster Cup.

Michael Jarvis' four-year-old bolted in on his first start of the campaign at this track and although fast ground scuppered his chance at Goodwood next time, he bounced back with a Listed victory in France.

White Moonstone has been impressive on her first couple of appearances and Godolphin's youngster complete the hat-trick in the May Hill Stakes, while Richard Hannon's flying grey Zebedee can continue his remarkable season with victory in the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes.

It was difficult not to be impressed with Frankel's debut win at Newmarket and he can follow up in the Frank Whittle Partnership Conditions Stakes. The Galileo colt travelled brilliantly on that first start and with conditions likely to be similarly testing on Friday, it would be a brave man who opposes Henry Cecil's youngster.

The consistent Jedi gets the vote in the Ladbrokes Mallard Stakes, while Damien is back on a winnable mark in the Brakes Fresh Ideas Handicap. Course and distance winner Willing Foe gets the vote in the closing Universal Recycling Classified Stakes.

At Doncaster yesterday, Wootton Bassett (2-1 favourite) maintained his unbeaten record with a battling success in the Weatherbys Insurance 300,000 2-Y-O Stakes. Richard Fahey had resisted the temptation to make the jump into Pattern company with his Iffraaj colt and his owners, Frank Brady & The Cosmic Cases, are now better off to the tune of another 190,000.

Having also won a big sales race at York last month, it was his old adversary from that day, Galtymore Lad, who made him pull out all the stops on 8lb better terms. But the Fahey youngster responded to all Paul Hanagan's urgings to win by a length.

The huge Ladies' Day crowd were also treated to a Frankie Dettori flying dismount after Eastern Aria (5-1) proved too tough for Rumoush to pass in the DFS Park Hill Stakes.

Meanwhile, Doncaster will host the next trial round of live televised stewards' inquiries. Following on from Goodwood in July, inquiries into races shown live on 4 Channel on Town Moor will be staged in front of the cameras.
