One-time title favourites Corstorphine turn the corner

RH CORSTORPHINE president Arnie Sathiy believes his side have turned a crucial corner in their quest to shake off the effects of a wretched opening half of the season.

He issued his verdict in the wake of Saturday's successful revenge mission against Weirs at Albert Park. And Sathiy reckons the feelgood factor has returned to the squad because they have virtually all their leading lights available again. He declared: "That has been the case for the last three weekends and the difference has been marked.

"In May and June, heads had gone down after losing a couple of matches we should have won.

"Now the basics are back together and we have a much happier bunch of guys."

RHC began the campaign as title favourites, however negative results had them wallowing in the lower reaches of the division before the half-way stage.

Sathiy added: "Although the picture is much brighter, we are not yet mathematically safe. Staying in the SNCL is the key and we now aim to keep up the momentum until the last ball has been bowled in the last match of the season."

Pro Mo Ramzan was the man who mattered most at the weekend. His ten overs yielded only nine runs as Weirs capitulated to 103 all out after a solid start.

He then struck a chanceless 66 not out to complete the eight-wicket victory

Overseas amateur Jason Biddulph also played a major part with a five-scalp haul.

The battle of the main challengers to Dumfries - Renfrew and West Lothian - were sidelined by the weather.

One of the country's most promising young batsmen, Tom McBride, again underlined his talent by striking 111 to propel Dumfries to victory at Freuchie.

McBride was given stout support by Scott Beveridge (81) as they reached a lofty 301 for four.

The Fifers' day of misery was complete when the crashed to 122 all out.

Elsewhere, the Jon Kent show continued in SMRH's 69-run success against Ferguslie at Inverleith.

The South African pro hit 65 then took three for nine.

It was a bad day all round for the Paisley teams in the capital, Kelburne sliding to a 40-run defeat to Imans Edinburgh at Academy Park.
