One-dayer in Brisbane to go on as flood fundraiser

England's one-day international against Australia in Brisbane is expected to go ahead later this month despite the floods that have decimated Queensland.

Emergency measures have been called in the north- eastern state as the still rising waters have claimed the lives of 10 people, with more than 90 more missing. Brisbane has been hit hard with areas of the city evacuated yesterday after its major river burst its banks in the central business district. The Brisbane River is set to rise another two metres to its peak in the next 24 hours, however, officials do not expect the nearby Gabba ground to be affected.

Queensland officials have not made any plans to delay their upcoming fixtures, with a domestic Twenty20 match set to be played on Saturday before England are due to meet Australia on 30 January.

"We have no concerns at this stage," Queensland Bulls spokesman Stephen Gray said. "The ground is fine and we are preparing as normal for Saturday's Big Bash game between Queensland and New South Wales." Cricket Australia have already announced the 30 January match will be dedicated to raising funds for the disaster.

England announced their players would donate part of their match fees from yesterday's Twenty20 international at Adelaide towards the Queensland Premier's Flood Relief appeal, while Australia are set to announce further fund- raising events during the limited- overs series.
